CREATIVE CIRCLE
This past year, I completed a nine-month contract with Creative Circle with their client, Edward Jones. In this remote role, I worked cross-functionally with stakeholders to create and execute communication plans across the firm. My main duties taking key-messages and writing and editing articles to publish on the internal company website for financial advisors and associates to stay up today on the latest firm news and information. Find out more about my position by reading the case study below.
Code for America
Code for America is a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, CA that works to improve government through the collaboration of technology and design. This year, I had the opportunity to attend the 2019 Code for America Summit as a freelance writer and cover six break-out sessions. For this assignment, I attended each break-out session, took detailed notes, and wrote articles covering everything from strategic communication to designing better forms in government. You can read one of my articles from the summit below.
MATRIX RESOURCES
At MATRIX Resources, I worked onsite with a large financial institution to create content for their online community. Working with the Digital Team, I developed communication strategies to help break down complex information into engaging pieces that customers could easily understand. We saw an instant increase in engagement through applying these tactics and strategies to the content creation process. Read more about this project below.
The Discovery Museum
Based in Northern Nevada, just an hour from beautiful Lake Tahoe, the Discovery Museum brings educational and creative opportunities to children and adults in the community. While many fun and interactive activities happen at the museum, there’s a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes that we don’t get to see. For this project, I interviewed staff members and volunteers to create a series of “Staff-Spotlight” articles. These articles give you insight into the stories behind people who make all of the magic happen on a daily basis.
The Powell Perspective
A little fun fact about me— I actually have a B.S. in finance. That makes it extra fun for me to dig into the research and do some financial writing to help keep me sharp (and loose all my hair). For this client, I put together two financial articles. My desk was full of stacks of paper, I drew graphs, and maybe lost a little sleep… but here you go! If you’re feeling extra analytical today, check out one of my articles below about investing and the historical returns on hedge funds.
NATIONAL PRESS RELEASE FOR CONSULTING FIRM
For this project, I worked Diane Dye Hansen of What Works Consultants to develop a PR strategy for the national release of her workbook designed to help individuals innovate and create opportunities out of any challenge. Project steps included: reviewing a copy of the workbook to learn about the product, conducting an interview with Diane, identifying the main story and value drivers, and then writing the press release for distribution. The workbook is available for sale on Amazon.
